The highlight of Narai-juku is its townscape. It is the longest place in Japan where the townscape of the Edo period remains, stretching for 1 km. It has been designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in Japan.
The streets are lined with souvenir shops, liquor stores, and lacquerware shops.
Walking through this old town nestled in the nature of the Kiso Valley, you can take a leisurely stroll as if time has stopped.

There is a bridge made of cypress wood that you can cross for free. There is a park nearby, where you can enjoy a leisurely picnic. There are few people, so you can let your children play there.

About public transportation
When traveling to Narai-juku, it is important to pay attention to public transportation. As it is a rural area, there are very few trains and buses.
1. Trains: We recommend checking the timetables for both the outward and return journeys.
The nearest station is Naraiji Station. It is about a 2-minute walk from the station to Naraiji-juku.
When you get off at Naraiji Station, check the timetable to confirm the return train.
Due to the limited number of trains, you may have to wait 2-3 hours.
2. Bus: There is a bus operated by Shiojiri City.
However, there are few buses and they only run in Japanese. Trains are more convenient for foreigners.
3. Car: There is a parking lot near Narai-juku, so cars are convenient.
If you are renting a car, cars are the most recommended option.
4. Hitchhiking: Occasionally, you may see people hitchhiking. Japanese people are generally cautious,
especially those in rural areas. Hitchhiking in rural areas is not recommended.
Unlike in other countries, few cars stop.
It is advisable to research and use public transportation such as trains.
奈良井宿へ行く際は、公共交通機関に注意が必要。田舎であるため、電車やバスの本数がとても少ない。
１ 電車 ： 行きと帰りの時刻表を調べることを勧める。
最寄り駅な奈良井駅。駅から徒歩２分程度で奈良井宿に入ることができる。
奈良井駅を電車を降りたら、時刻表を見て帰りの電車を確認してください。
電車が少ないため２−３時間待ちとなることがある。
２ バス ：塩尻市が運営しているバスがある。
バスの本数が少なく日本語のみ。電車の方が外国人にとって便利。
３ 車 ： 奈良井宿近くに駐車場があるため、車が便利。
車をレンタカーする人は、車が一番おすすめ。
４ ヒッチハイク ：時々、ヒッチハイクをする人をみかける。日本人は、警戒心が強い
田舎の日本人は特に警戒心が強いだろう。 田舎でヒッチハイクはおすすめしない
海外と違い、ほとんど車は止まらない。
